PM Shehbaz reaffirms govt's unwavering support for flood victims

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed the government's unwavering support for those affected by the recent floods, assuring that every possible resource is being deployed to help them overcome the challenges they are facing.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, he emphasized that the administration is actively working to provide relief and assistance to the flood-hit communities.

He also acknowledged the commendable initiative taken by the employees of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), who have voluntarily contributed one day’s salary to support the flood victims.

The prime minister lauded this act of generosity, describing it as both noble and inspiring, and a reflection of the compassion and unity needed during difficult times.

Separately, PM Shehbaz has instructed the formulation of a comprehensive policy aimed at addressing the challenges posed by climate change and the monsoon season in a timely and effective manner.

In line with this directive, a working paper is being prepared and will be circulated among all provincial governments to lay the foundation for a coordinated national strategy.

According to an official statement from the PM’s Office, once the ongoing emergency situation subsides, the prime minister will convene a high-level meeting to deliberate on the proposed policy.

This meeting will include the chief ministers of all four provinces, heads of key institutions, and will also extend invitations to the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir as well as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, the Radio Pakistan reported.

PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts for the construction of water reservoirs and improved water management systems across the provinces, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.

He stated that these projects would be undertaken with mutual consultation and coordination among all stakeholders.

The prime minister reaffirmed that climate change is a pressing reality and stressed that only through preparedness and unity can the adverse effects of natural disasters be minimized.

PM Shehbaz called on all provincial and regional governments, along with the federal administration, to work collectively to safeguard the population from the growing threats associated with climate change.
