Lahore (Web Desk): In yet another move to curb Pakistani media content, the Indian government has blocked the YouTube channel of Neo News, a prominent Pakistani news outlet, across India following the coverage of Pahalgam incident.
This is not the first time India has taken such a step against Pakistani media.
On Monday, the Modi government blocked 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including those belonging to several prominent journalists.
According to reports, India's stance is that these channels are allegedly spreading provocative and misleading content.
In Pakistan, journalist bodies and social media users have condemned the move, calling it a direct attack on press freedom.
Critics argue that India’s actions reflect a broader attempt to control narratives and suppress alternative viewpoints, particularly those highlighting sensitive geopolitical issues.
“India fears the truth,” said one commentator on social media, adding that silencing Pakistani media voices is a tactic to conceal inconvenient facts from the Indian public.
The incident underscores rising tensions in the digital information space between the two countries, with growing concerns about cross-border censorship media access.
Following a deadly attack on April 22 that left 26 men dead in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Indian authorities announced a ban in the area.
The attack, which targeted a group of tourists, is being described as the most severe against civilians in the region in over 25 years. In the immediate aftermath, Indian officials accused Pakistan of being involved in the violence.
Pakistan, however, rejected the allegations and instead called for an impartial, independent investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident.
