Netanyahu claims Hamas Gaza chief Mohammad Sinwar killed by Israel 

Jerusalem (Web Desk/Agencies): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday claimed that Mohammad Sinwar, the Hamas chief in Gaza and younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, had been killed. 
Yahya Sinwar was the leader of Hamas and the mastermind behind the October 2023 attack.

Netanyahu stated that Mohammad Sinwar had been the target of an Israeli strike earlier this month on a hospital in southern Gaza. On May 21, he had said it was likely that Sinwar was dead.

The confirmation came during an address to the Israeli parliament, where Netanyahu listed several Hamas officials Israel had eliminated over the past 20 months, including Yahya Sinwar.

"In the last two days we have been in a dramatic turn towards a complete defeat of Hamas," he said. He also mentioned that Israel was "taking control of food distribution," referring to a new aid system in Gaza now managed by a US-backed organization.

Hamas has not yet confirmed Mohammad Sinwar’s death. The announcement from Netanyahu coincides with an intensification of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, following the breakdown of a fragile ceasefire with Hamas in March.

Israel maintains that its goals are to dismantle Hamas’ military and governing capabilities and to secure the release of hostages still held in Gaza.
