UN chief urges immediate reopening of Strait of Hormuz, warns of global economic strain

New York (Web Desk): United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, describing its closure as a serious threat to the global economy.

Addressing an emergency session of the UN Security Council, he said that this vital international shipping route must remain free of any restrictions, tolls, or blockades to ensure the uninterrupted flow of global trade.

Guterres warned that the impact of the Strait of Hormuz closure is being felt worldwide, with global supply chains severely disrupted.

He added that this disruption is contributing to rising inflation across many countries.

He stressed that international trade should not become a victim of political or military tensions, urging all concerned parties to ensure the safety and stability of key trade routes.

The UN chief further emphasized that it is the collective responsibility of all nations to keep global trade flowing smoothly so that ordinary people are protected from the burden of rising prices.
