5.7-magnitude earthquake jolts Islamabad, parts of KP 

Islamabad (Web Desk): A 5.7-magnitude earthquake shook Islamabad, Peshawar, and multiple areas across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Monday.

According to the Seismic Monitoring Centre, residents in the federal capital and in KP’s capital Peshawar felt noticeable tremors, while reports of shaking also came in from Swat, Nowshera, Shangla, and Buner.

The Seismic Monitoring Centre identified the earthquake’s epicentre in the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border region and said the quake originated at an estimated depth of 170 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface.

Authorities confirmed that no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage had been received.

Pakistan lies in a highly active seismic zone due to its position along the collision boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making it vulnerable to earthquakes, several of which have caused significant destruction in past decades.
