PMD warns of heavy rain, flooding risks across Pakistan from June 26 to 28

Islamabad (Web Desk):The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall between June 26 and June 28, predicting flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides in several parts of the country.

According to the PMD, moist air from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, combined with a westerly weather system, is expected to bring widespread showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds to areas including Murree, Galliyat, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Kashmir.

The department has raised particular concern over potential landslides in hilly regions, urging residents to avoid traveling on dangerous routes during this period.

Authorities are also warning of damage to vulnerable infrastructure such as mud houses, power poles, and parked vehicles. Continued rain and stormy conditions are likely to disrupt daily life on Thursday and Friday, especially in areas prone to flooding.

For Sindh, the PMD forecasts partly cloudy skies in most districts on Friday, but several areas — including Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Khairpur, Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, and Karachi — are expected to experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, with isolated heavy showers.

Over the past 24 hours, rainfall and thunderstorms were recorded in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, parts of Punjab, Islamabad, and Kashmir. Notable rainfall amounts included 70mm in Malam Jabba and 63mm in Kasur.

Meanwhile, the highest temperatures were observed in Dalbandin at 46°C, with several other cities hitting 45°C. Much of the country continues to experience extremely humid weather.
