PM vows focus on economic revival in upcoming budget year

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed his government's determination to boost the country’s economy in the upcoming fiscal year.

Chairing a meeting of the Federal Cabinet in Islamabad, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, coalition allies, and cabinet members for their cooperation in finalizing the national budget.

He extended special appreciation to the economic team — especially Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) — for their dedication and hard work in preparing the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–26.

Addressing recent developments in the Middle East, Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, thanking Allah for the peaceful outcome of the conflict. He also acknowledged the significant diplomatic efforts made by various countries, particularly Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in helping to secure the truce.

The Prime Minister noted that Iranian leaders expressed their appreciation for Pakistan's support during the ceasefire process, specifically mentioning President Zardari, PM Shehbaz himself, and Pakistan’s military leadership for their contribution.

He also referred to Pakistan’s formal condemnation of Iran’s alleged attack on Qatar, reiterating Islamabad's stance in support of regional peace.

Turning to domestic matters, Shehbaz directed authorities to ensure comprehensive security during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram. He instructed the Interior Minister to coordinate with provincial governments, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir to maintain law and order during religious processions and gatherings.

The Cabinet also offered prayers (Fateha) for Major Moiz Abbas Shah and other soldiers who embraced martyrdom in an anti-terror operation in South Waziristan.

Concluding the session, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his government's commitment to defeating extremist elements and continuing the fight against terrorism, referring to it as a war against "Fitna-al-Khwarij."
