Qatar, Saudi Arabia announce $89 million aid package for Syria

Doha/Riyadh (Web Desk): Qatar and Saudi Arabia have pledged a combined aid package of $89 million to Syria through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This funding aims to ensure the continuity of basic public services and provide support during the ongoing crisis in the country.

According to foreign news agencies, the financial assistance from Qatar and Saudi Arabia will help stabilize Syria's public sector, especially in maintaining essential services. A significant portion of this aid will be allocated to paying the salaries of Syrian government employees.

This isn’t the first instance of financial support from the two nations. In May, Qatar and Saudi Arabia had previously provided financial aid to Syrian civil servants. Additionally, in April, both countries paid off $15 million of Syria’s debt to the World Bank.

In another development, Saudi Arabia recently announced an additional $368 million in economic aid for Yemen. The decision came after a formal request from Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the head of Yemen’s Presidential Council, who appealed to the Saudi government in light of the severe financial difficulties faced by the Yemeni people. The aid was swiftly approved by Saudi authorities.
