Gen Z protests force resignation of Indian education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

New Delhi (Web Desk): Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepting his resignation, according to reports circulating on Saturday.

Pradhan announced his resignation in a post on social media platform X, formally confirming his decision to step down from the Union Cabinet.

His resignation follows weeks of nationwide protests led by students and members of Generation Z (Gen Z), who demonstrated against alleged irregularities in public examinations, including paper leak scandals and claims of corruption in the examination system.

The protests gained momentum across several parts of India, with demonstrators demanding greater transparency, accountability and reforms in the country's examination process.

Protesters accused the authorities of failing to prevent repeated paper leaks that they said had undermined the future of millions of students.

Despite police action, including crackdowns and the use of force to disperse demonstrators, the student movement continued.

Protesters remained steadfast in their demands, maintaining demonstrations until the education minister's resignation was announced.
