PM Shehbaz, Iranian FM Araghchi discusses overall regional situation

Islamabad (Web Desk): ran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House, in a meeting widely regarded as highly significant given the evolving situation in the region and the state of Pakistan–Iran relations.

According to Neo News correspondent Javed Noor, the Iranian foreign minister’s visit to the Prime Minister House was marked by the presence of Pakistan’s senior leadership alongside the prime minister.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir were also part of the meeting.

Officials said the Iranian delegation was received with warmth and cordiality on arrival, following which detailed talks began at the delegation level.

During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on the broader developments in the Middle East, particularly focusing on regional peace, stability, and emerging challenges.

The talks also included a comprehensive review of Pakistan–Iran relations, with emphasis on expanding trade ties, improving border security cooperation, and strengthening coordination at international forums.

Both countries also explored ways to jointly address common regional and global challenges.

The simultaneous presence of the premier, the Field Marshal, and the foreign minister in the meeting with the Iranian delegation is being interpreted as a clear indication of the importance Pakistan places on its close, brotherly, and strategically important relationship with Iran.

In a posh shared on X, PM Shehbaz said he had a “very cordial and warm exchange of views on the prevailing regional situation,” adding that both sides also reviewed issues of shared interest, particularly the enhancement of bilateral relations.

DPM Dar noted that the discussions continued for approximately two hours, during which the Prime Minister underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential for maintaining peace and stability in the region and beyond.

Iran stated that the conversation focused on bilateral relations, regional and global developments, and ways to broaden cooperation between the two countries.

"Araghchi thanked Pakistan’s efforts on ceasefire and hosting talks, reaffirmed Iran’s stance on ending the war, and stressed stronger ties with neighbours. Sharif emphasised continued cooperation in bilateral and multilateral arenas."

Later, Abbas Araghchi also shared his remarks on X following his recent trip to Pakistan, where he reflected on discussions focused on regional peace and diplomatic efforts. He expressed appreciation for Islamabad’s role and the spirit of cooperation shown during the visit. In his post, he wrote:

"Very fruitful visit to Pakistan, whose good offices and brotherly efforts to bring back peace to our region we very much value. Shared Iran's position concerning workable framework to permanently end the war on Iran. Have yet to see if the U.S. is truly serious about diplomacy."
