Meta announces major layoffs as company shifts focus to Artificial Intelligence

California (Web Desk): Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp parent company Meta has announced that it will lay off around 10% of its total workforce, affecting approximately 8,000 employees.

According to international media reports, the decision has been driven by the company’s heavy investment in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and its efforts to restructure operations.

Reports further state that Meta has also decided to eliminate around 6,000 vacant positions as part of its broader cost-cutting and efficiency improvement strategy.

Meta’s Chief People Officer, Janelle Gale, said the measures are aimed at streamlining the organizational structure and balancing the company’s large-scale investments in AI development.

The company has already committed billions of dollars in AI-related spending in 2025 and is expected to continue major investments in artificial intelligence and data centers in 2026 as well.

According to Meta, these changes are necessary to support its long-term technological vision, particularly the development of advanced AI systems and “superintelligence.”
