PM Shehbaz appoints Gen Aamer Raza as Commander National Strategic Command

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has elevated General Aamer Raza to the rank of four-star general and named him as the Commander of the National Strategic Command, marking a key appointment under newly restructured military command framework.

Before receiving the promotion, General Raza was serving as the Chief of the General Staff of the Pakistan Army. 
His elevation from lieutenant general to four-star general took place alongside his appointment to the newly established command.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the premier had approved both the promotion and the appointment.

 “The prime minister congratulated General Aamer Raza, HI(M), SBt on his promotion and appointment wishing him the best for undertaking this important responsibility,” the statement added.

The office of Commander of the National Strategic Command was introduced following the passage of the Pakistan Army, Air Force and Navy (Amendment) Bills, 2025, which brought significant changes to the country's military command structure. As part of the same legislation, Field Marshal Asim Munir was also designated as the Chief of Defence Forces.

The creation of the new position came after the office of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) was abolished. General Shamshad Mirza was the last military officer to serve in that role.
