London (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday urged the authorities concerned to put together a well-structured roadmap and reform plan featuring practical initiatives to strengthen investment and trade in Pakistan’s key sectors.
Chairing a high level meeting via Zoom from London, he underlined that agriculture, information technology, minerals, tourism, and renewable energy were sectors with vast potential to attract international investors.
Alongside investment, the premier said the government’s focus was also on expanding trade to substantially raise the country’s exports.
PM Shehbaz noted that specific targets had already been assigned to ministries, directing them to make full use of available resources to complete all ongoing schemes without delay.
He further instructed ministers to identify realistic projects and immediately move toward their implementation.
A forward-looking roadmap and reform package, he stressed, was essential to ensure that progress is pursued in a systematic way.
Highlighting the role of private enterprise, the prime minister said the participation of the private sector would be central to the economic strategy.
PM Shehbaz added that ongoing financial and economic reforms had set the economy on a new course, where transparency and innovation were guiding principles, and Pakistan was now moving steadily toward development.
The meeting was joined by Federal Minister for Environment Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik, Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Jehanzeb, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema.
