Burgenstock (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that both Iran and the United States (US) are genuinely committed to peace efforts and are sincerely working toward reducing tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking informally with journalists in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the US–Iran technical-level discussions, he said the Iranian leadership has managed the ongoing crisis with notable dignity and, in his view, is truly inclined toward promoting peace and stability in the region.
Referring to the US, he expressed confidence in President Donald Trump, describing him as a leader inclined toward peace. He recalled Trump’s role during the India–Pakistan conflict last year, saying his intervention helped prevent escalation and saved countless lives.
The prime minister also responded to remarks from US Vice President JD Vance, calling his sentiments about Pakistan warm and encouraging.
He said the improving tone in Pak–US relations was a positive development that could lead to deeper cooperation and closer coordination between the two countries.
PM Shehbaz expressed appreciation to President Trump for supporting Pakistan in strengthening economic ties and in efforts related to counterterrorism cooperation.
