Justice Munib Akhtar takes oath as acting CJP

Islamabad (Web Desk): The senior most judge of the Supreme Court (SC), Justice Munib Akhtar, on Monday assumed the responsibilities of Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) after Chief Justice Yahya Afridi proceeded abroad on an official visit.

According to a statement issued by the SC, the oath-taking ceremony was conducted at the Supreme Court Branch Registry in Karachi in a simple yet dignified manner.

The oath was administered by Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui.

Justice Munib Akhtar will carry out the duties of the Chief Justice during the period of CJP Justice Yahya Afridi’s absence from the country.

In accordance with established constitutional tradition and judicial practice, the most senior judge of the Supreme Court after the Chief Justice is entrusted with this responsibility.

The ceremony was attended by judges of the SC as well as judges of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC).

Senior judicial officers, court staff, and other officials of the SC were also present on the occasion.
The proceedings of the oath-taking ceremony were formally conducted by the Registrar of the Supreme Court.
