Watchdog report debunks Indian claim of downing six Pakistani jets

Islamabad (Web Desk): In a significant development that could have implications for regional stability, a recent claim by the Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF) regarding the downing of six Pakistani fighter jets during "Operation Sandhoor" has been debunked as false and politically motivated.

The claim, which garnered attention in Indian media and political circles, has now been challenged by a fact-finding report released by an international organisation, Fake News Watchdog (FNW).

According to the investigation, the Indian government presented images and so-called evidence to support its air force's assertion.

However, the watchdog’s report described the materials as fabricated, poor in quality, and lacking any credible verification. The organisation went further to accuse Indian media outlets and certain official institutions of orchestrating a deliberate attempt to mislead the public through misinformation.

The report sparked swift international reactions. A prominent Chinese defense analyst dismissed the IAF’s statement as “comical and unbelievable,” expressing concerns over the lack of military logic and factual consistency in the claim.

Several global defense experts have also raised serious questions about the validity of the statement, pointing out the absence of independent corroboration or satellite verification, which are typically available in modern-day military conflicts.

The FNW warned that such irresponsible and inflammatory claims not only mislead domestic audiences but also pose a threat to the fragile peace in South Asia.

The report emphasized the urgent need to curb the spread of false and politically charged information, particularly when it concerns military actions between nuclear-armed neighbours.

The incident underscores the growing concern over the weaponization of misinformation in geopolitically sensitive regions and highlights the crucial role of independent media and fact-checking institutions in upholding the integrity of public discourse.
