Ceasefire with Afghanistan to stay in effect unless violated, says defence minister 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Defence Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, has stated that the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan—brokered in Doha—will remain effective as long as it is not violated by either side.

Speaking on the accord, the minister clarified that the agreement explicitly requires that Afghan soil must not be used for any kind of cross-border infiltration or to provide shelter and support to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Khawaja Asif said Pakistan has repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to prevent their territory from being exploited for acts of aggression against Pakistan.

He further noted that Türkiye and Qatar, who played a key mediating role in the Doha negotiations, also emphasized that any support or facilitation extended to the TTP would amount to a direct violation of the ceasefire.

The defence minister added that the truce has no fixed duration and will continue as long as both countries respect its terms. “The ceasefire remains valid unless one party breaches the agreement,” he remarked.

It is worth mentioning that the peace accord was finalized in Doha with the active involvement of Qatar and Türkiye.

The next round of review meetings between Pakistan and Afghanistan is scheduled to take place in Türkiye from October 25 to 27, where both sides are expected to discuss the agreement’s implementation and further confidence-building measures.
