DPM Dar discusses bilateral, regional matters with German and other EU counterparts 

Brussels (Web Desk): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar conducted a series of high-level meetings with counterparts from Germany, Slovenia, Netherlands, Cyprus, and Denmark, focusing on bilateral, regional, and global issues.

These engagements took place on the sidelines of the 4th EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum.

Pakistan and Germany reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening ties across defence, political, economic, trade, investment, and education sectors.

The understanding came during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on the sidelines of the fourth EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Brussels.

The two sides highlighted the positive momentum in bilateral relations.

Dar welcomed Germany’s commitment of 114 million euros for 2025-26, which will support initiatives in climate action, energy transition, sustainable development, vocational training, and social protection in Pakistan. He also extended an invitation for the German leadership to visit Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of continued engagement.

The two sides discussed regional and global developments and agreed to sustain close dialogue to foster mutual understanding and deepen cooperation in areas of shared interest.

On the sidelines of the forum, DPM Dar also engaged with Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro. Their discussions covered the full spectrum of bilateral relations, exploring avenues for further collaboration.

Both officials expressed satisfaction with their ongoing partnership at the UN and other multilateral platforms, particularly in supporting each other’s international candidatures, and pledged to maintain close contact.

DPM Dar also met with Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra.

They underscored the importance of strengthening the long-standing fraternal ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka through high-level exchanges.

Both ministers highlighted the opportunity to build on the goodwill shared by their nations and to expand collaboration across trade, investment, tourism, culture, education, defence, agriculture, and human resource development.

They also committed to continuing their close cooperation both bilaterally and within multilateral forums.

In his meeting with Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon, both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and exchanged views on key regional and international developments.

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a mechanism for Bilateral Political Consultations.

DPM Dar invited Minister Fajon to Islamabad for the inaugural round of consultations and encouraged Slovenia’s participation in the Pak-EU Business Forum scheduled for April 2026.

Both sides committed to maintaining regular communication bilaterally and through multilateral platforms to strengthen cooperation in shared areas of interest.

During discussions with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, DPM Dar lauded the positive trajectory of Pak-Denmark relations.

The leaders explored avenues to deepen collaboration in trade, investment, economic growth, green energy, and people-to-people exchanges, while agreeing to stay closely connected in multilateral forums, particularly as fellow non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2025-26.

In meetings with Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel, Senator Dar reviewed bilateral cooperation and emphasized the importance of sustained engagement.

Both sides highlighted the positive course of relations and identified opportunities for further collaboration.

Meanwhile, DPM Dar also interacted with foreign ministers from Singapore, Slovenia, Brunei, Denmark, Poland, and Cambodia, as well as Japan’s deputy foreign minister, during a gala dinner hosted by EU High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas on the sidelines of the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum.
