PM Shehbaz expresses concern over recent escalation in Gulf region

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions in the Gulf region, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further undermine regional peace and stability.

The Prime Minister made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, who called on him in Islamabad during his official visit to Pakistan.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, Shehbaz Sharif said the country would continue to play the role of an honest and sincere mediator and facilitator in efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and reducing tensions in the region.

Recalling his recent visit to Tehran earlier this month to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, the Prime Minister conveyed his respectful greetings and best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

The meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran. Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the importance of close cooperation between the two neighbouring countries and reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to further expand ties in areas of mutual interest.

Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni thanked the Prime Minister for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation in Islamabad.

He conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the Iranian leadership and said his visit reflects Tehran’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan.

Momeni noted that he is leading a delegation of senior government officials to explore new avenues of bilateral collaboration and deepen relations between the two countries.

The Iranian minister also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in facilitating dialogue that resulted in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

He further thanked the Prime Minister for travelling to Tehran to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, describing the visit as a reflection of the close and longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Iran.
