PPP names Amjad Hussain Advocate for GB CM slot

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated Amjad Hussain Advocate as its candidate for the position of Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister.

According to party sources, this is the first time the PPP has fielded a candidate for the chief minister slot from the Gilgit region. Amjad Hussain Advocate currently serves as the President of PPP Gilgit-Baltistan.

He was also elected from the GBLA-1 Gilgit constituency in the recent elections.

The development comes as the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has released official results for 21 out of 24 constituencies.

According to the notification, PPP has secured 9 seats, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) 6, IPP 4, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) 1, and one seat has gone to an independent candidate.

Results from GBLA-9 Skardu-3, GBLA-17 Diamer-3, and GBLA-15 Diamer-1 are yet to be announced.

The Election Commission further stated that out of six reserved seats for women, PPP won 3, PML-N 2, and IPP 1. On technocrat seats, each of PPP, PML-N, and IPP secured one seat.

PPP leader Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said the party holds a clear majority of 17 to 19 seats, including reserved and technocrat seats, and expressed confidence that PPP will form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan.
