PPP’s Amjad Hussain elected unopposed as new Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit (Web Desk): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amjad Hussain Advocate was elected unopposed as the new Chief Minister (CM) of Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to details, the announcement was made during a session of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly chaired by Speaker Imran Nadeem.

No other candidate submitted nomination papers for the chief minister’s slot, resulting in an uncontested election.

All members present in the assembly extended their support to Amjad Hussain, confirming his unanimous selection for the office.

Amjad Hussain Advocate becomes the fifth CM of Gilgit-Baltistan. He had won the recent election from constituency GBLA-1 Gilgit and currently serves as the president of PPP Gilgit-Baltistan.

He has an extensive political background, having served as a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council from 2010 to 2015. In the 2020 elections, he also secured victory from two constituencies.

The date for his oath-taking ceremony will be announced later.

Earlier, PPP’s Imran Nadeem was elected unopposed as Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, while PML-N’s Kifayat-ur-Rehman Advocate was also elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker.

Meanwhile, following a request by opposition members, Speaker Imran Nadeem has declared PML-N Gilgit-Baltistan President Hafeez-ur-Rehman as the Leader of the Opposition.
