Punjab CM directs to formulate mechanism for provision of compensation to flood victims

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday chaired a special meeting where it was decided to launch immediate measures for the rehabilitation of flood victims and compensation for their losses.

The meeting resolved to establish flood relief committees at both district and tehsil levels to ensure a more efficient and accessible system of assistance delivery.

The Punjab directed the preparation of survey forms, a mobile application, and a monitoring dashboard to track relief efforts, adding that she would personally oversee the system to guarantee transparency and speed in aid distribution.

According to a report by the Revenue Department, floods have affected 3,775 villages across 27 districts and 64 tehsils of Punjab. The disaster damaged 63,200 brick houses and 309,684 mud structures, leaving thousands of families vulnerable.

The meeting also decided on the immediate restoration of infrastructure in flood-hit areas, including roads, bridges, and other essential facilities.

Survey teams comprising representatives from the Urban Unit, Revenue Department, Agriculture Department, and the Pakistan Army will carry out the assessment work.

The chief minster further instructed the establishment of maximum relief camps and aid distribution points, emphasizing that the government must reach out to affected communities directly to ensure that every victim receives assistance and no one is left behind.
