Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday formally opened the Pakistan International Auto Show 2026 at the Expo Centre in Lahore, marking the start of the three-day exhibition featuring prominent automobile manufacturers and companies from Pakistan and abroad.
After the inauguration, the chief minister met informally with representatives of the automobile industry and praised their contribution to strengthening the country’s economy.
She said the automotive sector was an important driver of industrial expansion, investment and job creation.
Maryam said the Punjab government was working to encourage domestic manufacturing while creating opportunities for investment, technological development and innovation.
She added that the auto show would provide a platform for expanding business partnerships, attracting investment and promoting technology transfer.
Representatives from the electric vehicle and tractor manufacturing sectors welcomed the Punjab government’s Green Taxi, CM Bike and Green Tractor programmes. They said that these initiatives had encouraged local production and helped expand the electric vehicle and tractor industries.
The chief minister then toured different stalls at the exhibition, where she reviewed several electric vehicles and took a particular interest in an electric ambulance. She also looked at the latest models of vehicles, motorcycles and generators on display.
During her visit, CM Maryam inspected Suzuki’s biogas model and held discussions with foreign experts at Honda, Suzuki and other participating stalls.
She also expressed appreciation for the quality of products manufactured locally under the “Made in Pakistan” banner.
Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) Chairman Usman Aslam Malik, Chief Organizer Syed Nabeel Hashmi and other officials briefed the chief minister on the exhibition and its various activities.
The Pakistan International Auto Show 2026 is taking place in four halls of the Expo Centre, with a total of 150 exhibitors participating. The event includes 44 international exhibitors and 43 local exhibitors.
Leading automotive names, including Suzuki, Kia, GAC, Chery, Sazgar, BYD, G-Tour, Hyundai and Honda, have established stalls at the show, featuring cars, motorcycles, electric and semi-electric vehicles, along with locally manufactured automobile parts.
