WhatsApp announces new feature for users

Karachi (Web Desk): WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature for its users, allowing them to use the same username across Meta’s other apps, such as Instagram and Facebook. This feature will be available by next year, providing users with the ability to maintain a consistent identity across platforms.

According to a report from a technology website, under this new feature, WhatsApp users will be able to reserve their preferred username, allowing them to connect with others via their username without sharing their phone number. The aim is to provide users with greater convenience and privacy, enabling them to remain active on the platform without sharing personal information.

WhatsApp will require verification through Meta’s Account Center for users to reserve their username. Once a username is reserved, that specific handle will no longer be available to other users. This feature will make it possible to connect on WhatsApp and maintain a consistent identity across Meta apps.

There will be certain rules for reserving a username, including that the username must be at least one character long and can only include lowercase letters, numbers, dots, and underscores. It cannot start with "www" or "com," nor can it contain domain names like ".com" or ".net." The length of the username must be between 3 to 30 characters.

This new feature is a significant effort by WhatsApp to make communication easier and more secure, allowing people to connect with each other without sharing their mobile numbers.
