Maritime reforms boost Karachi Port Trust operations

Karachi (Web Desk): The Prime Minister’s Maritime Reforms Task Force has played a key role in boosting the efficiency and operational standards of Karachi Port, bringing noticeable improvements to customs procedures and container terminal operations.

A comprehensive set of initiatives aimed at increasing port productivity and reducing cargo processing times at Karachi Port Trust has now been put into effect.

The introduction of the Green Channel, paperless Goods Declaration (GD) clearance, post-clearance audits, and a series of customs reforms has made the cargo clearance process faster, smoother, and more transparent.

Meanwhile, major upgrades have been carried out at Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT), South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPT), and Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT), enhancing their infrastructure and operational capabilities to better handle commercial traffic.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs has also accelerated the digital transformation of port operations to further improve cargo movement.

The rollout of the Port Community System, installation of advanced cargo scanning technology, and deployment of electronic weighbridges have strengthened efficiency, modernized port services, and streamlined the overall clearance process.
