Iconic radio-television anchor Tariq Aziz remembered on death anniversary

Lahore (Web Desk): The 6th death anniversary of legendary broadcaster, television icon, film actor and literary personality Tariq Aziz is being observed today (Wednesday) as admirers across the country paid tribute to his remarkable contributions and enduring influence on Pakistan’s media and cultural heritage.

Born on April 28, 1936, in Jalandhar, he was widely recognized for his distinctive voice, graceful style of presentation and strong on-screen charisma, which set him apart as one of the most memorable figures in broadcasting.

Tariq Aziz went on to become a major force in Pakistan’s media landscape, earning widespread respect for his communication skills, confident delivery and unique way of engaging audiences.

His work helped shape early broadcasting standards in the country and left a lasting impression on viewers and listeners alike.

Tariq Aziz started his professional journey at Radio Pakistan in the 1960s and later rose to prominence as one of the pioneering personalities of Pakistan Television. His authoritative voice and fluent command over language quickly made him a household name nationwide.

He gained immense popularity as the host of the iconic PTV quiz show Neelam Ghar, which first aired in 1974. The programme later continued under different titles, including Tariq Aziz Show and Bazm-e-Tariq Aziz, and remained one of the longest-running and most celebrated television shows in Pakistan’s history.

Beyond television, he also explored acting in films and appeared in several notable productions such as Chiragh Kahan Roshni Kahan, Salgirah, Qasam Us Waqt Ki, Katari, Haar Gaya Insan, and Insaniyat, reflecting his range and versatility as an artist.

In recognition of his outstanding services to Pakistan’s entertainment industry, he was honoured with the Pride of Performance award in 1994.

He passed away on June 17, 2020, in Lahore at the age of 84, leaving behind a rich legacy in broadcasting, television and cultural history that continues to be remembered with admiration.
