PM Shehbaz directs to link Reko Diq with railway network by 2028

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure that Reko Diq is connected to Pakistan’s railway network by 2028, in order to support the anticipated demands of future transportation and freight services.

He gave these directions while chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, which focused on the upgradation of Pakistan Railways and the integration of Reko Diq into the national rail infrastructure.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz called for the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the financial aspects of railway development.

This committee will be responsible for presenting concrete proposals regarding the funding required for the modernization of Pakistan Railways and its planned extension to Reko Diq.

The premier highlighted the crucial role of Pakistan Railways in the country’s economy and communication system, describing it as an affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

He noted that establishing a railway link to Reko Diq would contribute significantly to the development of Balochistan’s mining and mineral sector and would open up new employment opportunities for the local population.

The meeting also included a briefing for the prime minister on the ongoing efforts to upgrade the ML-1 and ML-3 railway lines, as well as broader plans to enhance the overall infrastructure of Pakistan Railways to meet future logistical and freight requirements.
