Deadly fire at shopping centre in Iraq's Al-Kut claims over 60 lives

Iraq (Web Desk): A massive fire broke out in a large shopping center in the city of Al-Kut, resulting in the death of at least 60 people, with several others still reported missing. The tragic incident has cast a pall of mourning over the area.

Governor Mohammed Al-Miyahi stated that the fire was so intense that most of the shopping center was completely destroyed. He warned that the death toll could rise further as many individuals are believed to be trapped under the rubble.

At the time of the fire, the shopping center housed a restaurant where dozens of people were dining. A case has been registered against the building owner, and the governor assured that no leniency will be shown to anyone found responsible for this tragedy.

According to Iran’s official news agency, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, but an initial investigation report is expected to be released within two days.

Rescue teams continue their operations, while videos circulating on social media show the entire building engulfed in flames with thick clouds of smoke spreading across the area.
