Case registered against Bihar CM Nitish Kumar over forcible removal of Muslim doctor's veil 

Lucknow (Web Desk): A case has been registered against Indian Bihar state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following an incident in which a woman doctor’s veil was allegedly pulled off.

According to India media reports, the registration of the case was initiated in Lucknow by Samajwadi Party leader Samia Rana.

Amnesty International India has condemned the incident, describing it as a violation of women’s fundamental rights.

Aakar Patel, Chair of the Board at Amnesty International India, condemned the act, calling it “an attack on her dignity, personal freedom, and identity.”

Patel stressed that when a public official forcibly interferes with a woman’s clothing, it sends a troubling message that such conduct is acceptable.

“No individual has the right to control a woman’s faith or attire,” he said.

He warned that such behavior fosters fear, entrenches discrimination, and undermines the core principles of equality and religious freedom. Patel urged that the incident must be met with firm accountability and immediate measures to protect women from such humiliating treatment.

A video that has gone viral on social media shows Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar pulling off Nusrat Parveen’s hijab during a government function, sparking widespread condemnation.

In the footage, Nitish Kumar can be seen motioning toward Nusrat Parveen’s headscarf before abruptly yanking it off.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, standing behind him, seems to step in and half-heartedly tries to restrain the CM, while, Health Minister Mangal Pandey and the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary, Deepak Kumar, are visible laughing during the episode.
