Poet, lyricist Tasleem Fazli remembered on death anniversary

Karachi (Web Desk): The 44th death anniversary of renowned Pakistani poet, dialogue writer and film lyricist Tasleem Fazli was observed on Monday, marking the passing of a creative figure whose work left a lasting impression on the country’s film and music industry.

Fazli, whose birth name was Izhar Anwar, was born in New Delhi in 1947 into a family known for its literary connections.

He moved to Pakistan with his family in 1965 and went on to build a distinguished career in Urdu poetry and film songwriting.

Over the course of his career, Fazli wrote nearly 500 songs for more than 170 Pakistani films released during the 1960s, 1970s and the early years of the 1980s.

Several of his songs became enduring favourites among music lovers. His notable works include “Rafta Rafta Woh Meri Hasti Ka Saman Ho Gaye,” “Maine Pairon Mein Payal Toh Bandhi Nahin,” “Hamari Saanson Mein Aaj Tak Woh,” “Kisi Mehrbaan Ne Aake,” “Mujh Sa Tujh Ko Chahne Wala,” “Tu Meri Zindagi Hai” and “Dinwa Dinwa Main Ginnun Kab Aayenge Saanwariya.”

In recognition of his contribution to Pakistani cinema, Fazli received the Nigar Award for Best Lyrics on several occasions for films including Shabana, Aina and Bandish.

Tasleem Fazli died in Karachi on August 17, 1982. More than four decades after his death, his poetry and memorable film songs continue to be recalled as an important part of Pakistan’s cultural and musical heritage.
