Fuel-saving measures: Notification issued for closure of Islamabad markets, malls at 8pm

Islamabad (Web Desk): In view of rising energy demands and the need for austerity measures, the District Magistrate of the federal capital has issued an important notification introducing revised business operating hours aimed at electricity conservation and reducing the economic burden.

According to the notification, all small and large shops, as well as shopping malls across the city, will close at 8:00pm. Restaurants, hotels, food outlets, bakeries, grocery stores, and fruit and vegetable shops have been permitted to operate until 10:00pm.

Wedding halls, marquees, and other event venues will also be required to shut down by 10:00pm. Similarly, sports facilities, clubs, and gyms will be allowed to remain open only until 8:00 PM.

However, certain essential services have been exempted from these restrictions. These include medical stores, petrol pumps, CNG stations, milk shops, and other outlets providing essential goods. Home delivery and takeaway services will continue without interruption.

The notification will come into effect from April 16, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice. The administration has warned that strict legal action will be taken against any violations of these orders.
