PM Shehbaz directs NDMA to intensify relief efforts in rain-hit areas

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to make full use of its available resources to assist people affected by rainfall and ensure continuous coordination with provincial authorities and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs).

He was talking to NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik who called on him in Islamabad.

The prime minister stressed the need for closer coordination among the concerned departments so that traffic could continue moving smoothly on link roads and bridges and relief supplies could be delivered to affected communities without unnecessary delays during the ongoing rains.

During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the premier on the expected course of the current monsoon season and the level of preparedness to address intense rainfall and possible flooding.

Lt. General Inam Haider Malik highlighted the importance of cooperation between the provinces and relevant institutions in dealing with any emerging situation.

The NDM chairman said that, following the prime minister’s directions, concerned authorities had already begun taking preventive and proactive steps to improve monitoring of monsoon-related developments.

He also assured that all relevant departments throughout the country remained ready to carry out rescue and relief activities and respond promptly to any emergency caused by adverse weather conditions.
