Trump stresses other nations to send ships for Strait of Hormuz' security

Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has called on other nations to send warships to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, the vital oil transit route currently disrupted by Middle East hostilities.

Trump, who recently announced that the United States will soon begin escorting tankers through the strait, said in a Truth Social post that “many countries, especially those affected by Iran’s attempted closure of the Hormuz Strait, will be sending warships in coordination with the United States to keep the strait open and safe.”

The narrow waterway, only 54 kilometers (34 miles) at its narrowest point, handles roughly one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas. Iranian attacks have largely halted maritime traffic, causing a spike in global oil prices.

When asked on Friday about the timeline for US Navy escorts, Trump replied, “It will happen soon, very soon.”

In his Saturday post, Trump claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have been largely neutralized but acknowledged the country could still launch attacks using drones, mines, or short-range missiles.

He added that the United States would continue targeting Iranian vessels and coastal positions to ensure the waterway is “open, safe, and free.”
