World leaders, friendly countries felicitate Pakistan on Independence Day 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan received messages of goodwill from leaders and governments of friendly countries on Friday as the nation observed its 79th Independence Day with religious prayers, commemorative gatherings and ceremonies remembering the sacrifices of the country’s founding leaders.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Pakistan’s Independence Day provided a “valuable opportunity to pay tribute to the achievements of the great Pakistani nation”.

He observed that the common interests and shared destinies of Iran and Pakistan had become more closely connected, making enhanced coordination and collaboration between Tehran and Islamabad increasingly necessary.

Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s determination to broaden and strengthen its comprehensive relationship with Pakistan.

He said Tehran was willing to pursue more meaningful measures to advance bilateral ties, building on mutual confidence, respect and the considerable potential already available between the two countries.

The Iranian president also offered prayers for Pakistan’s continued progress, prosperity and development, while wishing for further strengthening of the longstanding fraternal bond between Iran and Pakistan.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed “heartfelt congratulations” to the people of Pakistan on the country’s Independence Day.

“Through our mutual cooperation in areas such as regional mediation, critical minerals, energy, counterterrorism, cultural heritage, and trade and investment, we are transforming our shared capabilities into progress and delivering real results for both the American and Pakistani peoples,” he said in a statement posted to the official X account of the US embassy in Islamabad.

Rubio highlighted the enduring partnership between the United States and Pakistan and reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship between the peoples of both countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also marked the occasion by sending Independence Day greetings to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He wished the people of Pakistan peace, prosperity and a secure and comfortable future.

“Russia-Pakistan relations are developing successfully,” Putin said in his message.

He pointed out that the two countries were maintaining productive engagement in political, commercial, economic, humanitarian and other sectors.

The Russian president further noted that Moscow and Islamabad continued to coordinate on significant regional and international matters.

Putin expressed confidence that cooperation between Russia and Pakistan would expand further across various fields, serving the shared interests of their peoples.

Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa also conveyed his felicitations to Pakistan on the national occasion.

Turkiye, which recently entered into a joint defence agreement with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, extended its greetings to “friendly and brotherly Pakistan” on Independence Day.

Azerbaijan also sent warm congratulations to Pakistan as the country completed 79 years of independence.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry congratulated Pakistan on the occasion and expressed Cairo’s desire to build further on the historic friendship between the two countries and deepen their partnership for the benefit of both peoples.

Germany’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Ina Lepel, joined other foreign representatives in extending her wishes through a video message shared on social media.

In the video posted by the German Embassy in Islamabad on its official Facebook account, Lepel congratulated Pakistanis on 79 years of independence and expressed hopes for peace, prosperity and development in the country, along with closer Pakistan-Germany relations.

Meanwhile, Pakistani diplomatic missions in different countries also organised Independence Day ceremonies. The events featured the hoisting of the national flag and the reading of messages from Pakistan’s leadership.
