Independence Day: Change of guard ceremonies held at Quaid and Iqbal mausoleums

Karachi/Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan commemorated its 78th Independence Day with reverence and national pride, as solemn ceremonies were held at prominent national landmarks.

At the heart of these commemorations were traditional guard-changing ceremonies at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi and Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore, drawing attendance from government officials, armed forces personnel, and citizens who gathered to honour the country's founding figures.

The day dawned with a 31-gun salute in federal and 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals, setting a patriotic tone for the celebrations. Special prayers were offered at Fajr, seeking continued peace, unity, prosperity, and progress for the country.

Cities and towns were draped in green and white, with flags and decorations adorning streets, public buildings, and homes, reflecting a vibrant display of national solidarity.

In Karachi, a contingent of 91 cadets from the Pakistan Naval Academy assumed ceremonial guard duties at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Dressed in full ceremonial attire, the unit was split into two groups—Pakistan Navy sailors and Navy cadets, including four female members.

The change of guard was executed with precision and discipline, symbolizing deep respect for the nation’s founder.

Following the ceremonial proceedings, Commodore Tasawur Iqbal, who served as the chief guest, recited Fateha at the site and recorded his reflections in the visitors’ book, commending Jinnah’s enduring vision and the sacrifices made for independence.

Attendees at the ceremony joined in offering prayers and expressed admiration for the armed forces' continued dedication to national values.

Meanwhile, in Lahore, a similar observance was held at the tomb of poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Punjab Rangers formally handed over responsibilities to Pakistan Army personnel.

The event, witnessed by civil and military dignitaries as well as members of the public, highlighted the deep cultural and ideological significance of the day, honoring the intellectual legacy that helped shape the nation.

These tributes, marked by order and solemnity, encapsulated the spirit of remembrance and reaffirmed the nation’s respect for those who laid the foundations of Pakistan.
