US VP JD Vance praises PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Asim Munir for their role in US-Iran mediation

Washington (Web Desk): United States (US) Vice President JD Vance has expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir over their role in encouraging diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran, noting that their involvement helped create conditions for dialogue.

In an interview with Fox News, he described the Pakistani leadership as gracious hosts and credited them with demonstrating notable statesmanship in supporting efforts to establish communication channels between the United States and Iran.

He said that Pakistan had acted as an important facilitating partner in narrowing the divide between the two sides and enabling meaningful contact.

“I have to give a lot of credit to Field Marshal Munir and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, both who are incredible hosts, and, I think, incredible statesmen and helping mediate the conversation between us and the Iranians,” Vance said.

The US vice president also clarified that the outcome of the negotiations should not be interpreted as a measure of Pakistan’s effectiveness in its facilitation role, adding that the absence of a final agreement was unrelated to Islamabad’s efforts.

He emphasized that Pakistani authorities had played a constructive and supportive role throughout the process, helping both sides engage more productively.

The US vice president said that the discussions primarily centered on longstanding tensions between Washington and Tehran, with Pakistan providing a neutral and supportive venue that made direct engagement between the two parties possible.
