President approves 'Sitara-e-Shujaat' for Liaqat Shaheed who thwarted suicide attack in Attock

Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday approved the conferment of the civil award “Sitara-e-Shujaat” (posthumous) upon Liaquat Shaheed, who sacrificed his life while trying to stop a suicide bomber in Attock’s Jand area.

According to a statement issued by the President House, the president granted the approval on the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Liaquat, who hailed from the Jand area of Attock district, was martyred after he stopped a suspicious man near Khushal Garh Bridge. As soon as Liaquat challenged the individual, the suicide attacker detonated the explosives he was carrying, leading to Liaquat’s martyrdom.

On Tuesday, both President Zardari and PM Shehbaz paid tribute to Liaquat Shaheed for his exemplary valor, remembering him as a shining example of national resilience, patriotism and collective awareness against terrorism.

The president also diredcted Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to locate Liaquat Shaheed’s family and deliver a message of full support and solidarity from the nation.

PM Shehbaz said the supreme sacrifice made by Shaheed Liaquat would never be forgotten, adding that he demonstrated exceptional courage, responsibility, and devotion to the country.

“Such brave citizens are the true symbol of the national resolve against terrorism. Shaheed Liaquat’s sacrifice is a guiding light for every individual of the nation,” the premier said.
