COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,338 new cases, 46 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 602,536 on Saturday after 2,701 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 260,959 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 183,815 in Punjab, 75,357 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19,188 in Balochistan, 47,365 in Islamabad 4,960 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 10,892 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 13,476 with 46 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 569,296 after another 1,231 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government on Saturday notified to re-impose restrictions to prevent the spread of novel Covid-19 amid the third wave which include mandatory face masks wearing, ban on indoor weddings, and work from home policy among others.

The recent restrictions will be enforced in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala and Gujrat district.

According to the notification, the business timings are restricted by 6:00pm while weekends will be off days.

It further added that the restrictions will not be enforced at medical stores and the health facilities also the general stores and petrol pumps will also remain open.

Marriage halls, community centres and cinemas will also remain closed from March 15, while the number of participants in social and religious gatherings will be restricted up to 50.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 118.529,000 million and death toll tops 2.630,000 million.
