Karachi (Staff Report): An accountability court on Wednesday ordered to form a medical board to review Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The court has ordered the board to determine if Memon's ailment is life threatening or not. He has also given the health secretary till December 16 to submit a reply regarding the medical services available at the jail's medical facility.
The board will comprise a neurologist and a neurophysician among other specialists and has been tasked with determining if Memon can be treated at the Karachi Central Jail's own hospital or not.
Memon's lawyer said he had no objections to the selection of any doctor to be on the medical board, but maintained that Memon cannot be treated at the jail's medical facility.
The National Accountability Board's prosecutor, on the other hand, objected to the formation of a medical board and said Memon is not suffering from any life threatening illness.
Memon was arrested by the NAB after the Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected his bail plea in a corruption case pertaining to the award of advertisements at 'exorbitant rates' through the abuse of his power.
