Missing Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi's body recovered from Broad Peak

Islamabad (Web Desk): The body of Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi, who disappeared after an avalanche hit Broad Peak on July 30, has been recovered after an extensive search operation, the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) confirmed on Thursday.

The avalanche struck the mountain on July 30, severing communication with a 10-member international climbing expedition led by 43-year-old British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja.

Purja’s company later confirmed that there were no survivors among those caught in the incident.

The ACP said Sakhi’s body was located and retrieved by three local volunteers from Shigar — Muhammad Nadeem, Muhammad Bashir and Abu Zar — who undertook the search independently.

Following the recovery, Sakhi’s remains were brought down from Camp One to the mountain’s base camp. The body was expected to be transported by an Army Aviation helicopter to Skardu, subject to suitable weather conditions.

The search for two other missing mountaineers was still underway, with rescue teams continuing efforts to locate their bodies.

The APC expressed its deepest condolences to Sakhi’s family and members of the mountaineering community over the loss.

Earlier, on August 6, the remains of five mountaineers had been transported to Skardu.
