Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed remembered on 60th martyrdom anniversary 

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): The nation is observing the 60th martyrdom anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, who laid down his life with extraordinary courage in the 1965 war.

He was born in Hong Kong in 1928 and moved to Pakistan before partition, later making Ladiyan village in district Gujrat his home. In 1950, he joined the Pakistan Army and was commissioned into the Punjab Regiment.

When war broke out in September 1965, Major Aziz Bhatti was commanding a company in Burki, Lahore.

Choosing to remain with his forward platoon, he led the defense of the vital BRB Canal for five days, enduring unceasing enemy artillery and tank fire.

He continued to direct and inspire his troops until an enemy shell claimed his life, immortalizing him as a symbol of bravery.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on this solemn day, lauded Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed for his exemplary heroism and sacrifice, which he said will forever be remembered in history.

The premier noted that by holding his ground and thwarting attacks for several days, Major Bhatti foiled the enemy’s plan to overrun Lahore and declare triumph.

PM Shehbaz reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces remain steadfast in the defense of the country, always ready to face threats with unyielding resolve.

He added that the people of Pakistan stand firmly united with their soldiers, sharing the same unwavering determination to safeguard the motherland.

Armed Forces commemorate 60th martyrdom anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed

The armed forces of Pakistan, along with their service chiefs, paid glowing tribute to Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, on the occasion of his 60th martyrdom anniversary, acknowledging his unmatched courage and ultimate sacrifice for the motherland.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, representing the armed forces, expressed deep respect and remembrance for the war hero.

“Major Aziz Bhatti laid down his life during the 1965 war while defending the Burki sector near Lahore, where he withstood unrelenting enemy assaults for five days and nights. His fearless resolve and remarkable command motivated his troops, and his resolute defence against a far larger force proved crucial in stopping the enemy’s advance. His martyrdom became a defining episode of the war and an enduring symbol of patriotism and bravery,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The military's media wing highlighted that his unwavering dedication to duty and extraordinary leadership remain a guiding example for generations to come. As the nation remembers his sacrifice, the legacy of all martyrs who offered their lives for the defence of Pakistan is also honoured.

Marking this solemn occasion, the armed forces renewed their pledge to safeguard the country with the same determination and spirit that Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed demonstrated throughout his service and sacrifice.
