OIC welcomes ceasefire between Pakistan and India

Jeddah (Web Desk): The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on Monday welcomed the ceasefire between Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of India and lauded the specific countries for taking initiative to mediate and bring two sides together to finalize the agreement.

The OIC called on the global community to intensify their efforts and encourage both Pakistan and India to pursue meaningful dialogue to address unresolved matters, particularly the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir, through peaceful negotiations in line with the relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSC).

The organisation also voiced its serious concern over the recent military escalation in South Asia, especially the unjustified airstrikes carried out in various locations within Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could lead to further destabilization of the region.

Affirming its strong stance, the General Secretariat reiterated the importance of adhering to the principles outlined in the UN Charter and International Law, particularly regarding the respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the protection of civilians, residential areas, and civilian infrastructure, including places of worship.

The OIC reaffirmed its steadfast position for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue, emphasizing the need for stability and security in South Asia while preventing the region from becoming a flashpoint between two nuclear-armed nations.
