Pakistan successfully launches indigenous EO-2 earth observation satellite from China

Islamabad / Beijing (Web Desk): Pakistan reached a new milestone in its space journey on Thursday as its second indigenous Earth Observation Satellite, EO-2, was successfully launched from China’s Yangjiang Seashore Launch Centre.

Designed and developed by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), EO-2 is set to strengthen the country’s earth observation capabilities, offering high-resolution imagery for critical applications including urban development, natural resource management, environmental monitoring, disaster response, and climate analysis.

SUPARCO officials celebrated the launch as a major achievement, noting that the addition of EO-2 will enhance the accuracy, coverage, and continuity of Pakistan’s satellite data. The accomplishment reflects the nation’s growing technical expertise and increasing self-reliance in advanced space technology.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the country on this landmark achievement.

In a statment, President Zardari paid tribute to the scientists, engineers, and researchers of SUPARCO for their dedication in developing and successfully launching EO-2.

He also expressed gratitude to China for its cooperation, highlighting that the Pakistan-China partnership in space technology continues to grow stronger.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a separate statement, praised the work of the scientists and researchers behind EO-2 and highlighted the satellite’s role in collecting vital data to support climate monitoring and urban planning.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also extended congratulations, describing the development as a sign of Pakistan’s steady progress toward technological self-reliance and advanced national space capabilities.

He thanked China for its consistent support and commended the SUPARCO team for their tireless efforts in expanding the country’s indigenous space infrastructure.
