Pakistan vows to further boost bilateral cooperation with Turkiye

Ashgabat (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday renewed his strong commitment to deepening Pakistan’s cooperation with Turkiye in every area of shared interest, ranging from politics and energy to economic ties, defence collaboration and investment.

He conveyed these views during his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the International Forum marking the International Year of Peace and Trust in Ashgabat. PM Shehbaz expressed satisfaction over the steady and frequent interactions between the leadership of both nations this year.

During the meeting, the two leaders once again emphasized the value of the historic and heartfelt relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye — a bond shaped by common values and a shared vision for progress and stability.

The premier also welcomed the holding of the 16th session of the Pak-Turkiye Joint Ministerial Commission, noting that it would help ensure the execution of decisions taken during the 7th HLSCC, as stated in a press release from the PM House.

Highlighting key sectors such as energy, petroleum and minerals, the prime minister appreciated Turkiye’s growing interest and investment in these areas. He called for both sides to move swiftly on the recently signed MOUs and agreements, stressing their importance for future cooperation.

PM Shehbaz added that Pakistan aimed to draw on Turkish experience in the privatization of distribution companies, and it was agreed that ministerial-level engagements would be scheduled soon.

He also pointed to the renewed Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul rail link as an important sign of progress in regional connectivity.

The two leaders also discussed major regional and international developments.

PM Shehbaz praised President Erdogan’s leadership and his “strong commitment to peace efforts in Gaza.”

He also thanked Turkiye for playing a constructive role in supporting dialogue between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban administration, while underscoring that lasting peace would depend on addressing Pakistan’s security concerns.

President Erdogan expressed gratitude for the prime minister’s remarks, especially his kind words, and conveyed his desire to work closely with Pakistan to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
