Islamabad (Web Desk): The Senate of Pakistan passed a unanimous resolution condemning Israel’s ongoing actions in Palestine and other affected regions.

The resolution, presented by Sherry Rehman on behalf of all parties, expressed grave concern over Israel’s continuous violations of international law and its unchecked impunity in dealing with Palestine.

The Senate highlighted the exploitation of the political instability in Syria, which Israel has used to further its agenda, extending beyond Palestine to undermine the sovereignty of Syria and other nations.

The resolution also called for immediate accountability for Israel’s actions, which have been condemned by many in the international community as war crimes.

It particularly condemned the killing of United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) staff, with 249 lives lost by the end of November 2024, following the deadly attacks on October 7, 2023.

These actions were described as clear violations of UN General Assembly Resolution 302, which mandates UNRWA’s role in providing vital humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations.

The Senate further denounced Israel’s recent legislative efforts to dismantle UNRWA’s ability to provide essential services to Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, and Syria.

This move, the resolution warned, threatens not only access to health, education, and other services but also the fundamental right of return for Palestinian refugees, a right recognized by international law.

In addition to condemning the direct humanitarian toll—44,612 Palestinians martyred and 105,834 injured, including many women and children—the Senate expressed outrage over the deliberate targeting of over 180 journalists during Israeli bombings in Gaza, as well as the destruction of critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and homes.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, the Senate called it both a moral and political obligation.

Pakistan reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution, envisioning an independent, contiguous State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. The Senate also called on the international community to take decisive action to end Israel’s impunity, hold Israel accountable for its war crimes, and ensure that international humanitarian law is upheld.

The Senate emphasized the need for peace, justice, and the protection of human rights in Palestine and the wider Middle East, urging the international community to act decisively to prevent further violations and safeguard Palestinian lives.
