Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked more than 1.54 million URLs linked to objectionable content on social media platforms as part of its efforts to restrict access to prohibited material.
According to official documents, over 1.065 million URLs associated with obscene content have been blocked, while 563 URLs remain under review and 9,528 have been rejected.
The documents show that 179,285 URLs related to terrorism were referred for blocking. Of these, 141,897 URLs have been blocked, while 23,241 are still being examined.
The data further reveals that 136,891 URLs were processed under the category of content against the sanctity of Islam. Meanwhile, 125,427 URLs concerning content against Pakistan’s security and defence were processed, with 74,059 of them blocked.
Authorities also processed 76,526 URLs linked to sectarian and hate speech. In the proxy category, 10,318 out of 10,319 URLs were blocked.
According to the documents, 44,200 URLs were processed under the categories of defamation and impersonation, with 17,356 subsequently blocked.
Overall, the PTA has blocked 1,542,800 URLs across different categories. Another 76,874 URLs are currently under review, while 106,629 URLs have been rejected.
