Iran sends response to US proposal via Pakistan: state media report

Tehran (Web Desk): Iran has formally conveyed its response to a recent proposal from the United States (US) through Pakistani mediators, as diplomatic momentum builds in the region aimed at reducing tensions and working toward a ceasefire in the Middle East.

Iran’s state media reported that Tehran conveyed its formal stance on Washington’s latest offer via Pakistan, though no details of the message were made public. The brief statement confirmed that the response was delivered through Pakistani intermediaries “with the intention of bringing the conflict to an end.

Officials familiar with the process say the current focus of discussions is narrowly centered on achieving a ceasefire and easing immediate regional pressure, while broader political and security issues are likely to be taken up in subsequent rounds of talks.

The development comes at a time of heightened military friction involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, prompting renewed diplomatic activity by various international stakeholders seeking to prevent further escalation in the region.

Meanwhile, Iran’s military leadership has reiterated that its armed forces remain on high alert and fully prepared to respond to any hostile move by the United States or Israel.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry had also stated that the government was carefully reviewing Washington’s proposals internally and would finalize its position after completing consultations.

Pakistan has increasingly played the role of a key facilitator in these diplomatic exchanges. Islamabad is reported to have helped broker a temporary ceasefire between Tehran and Washington on April 8, which brought an end to nearly forty days of confrontations.

However, follow-up negotiations held in Islamabad did not produce a decisive outcome, as differences persisted over security guarantees and wider steps toward de-escalation in the region.

A report published by The Wall Street Journal suggested that further US-Iran discussions could resume in Islamabad in the coming week, with ongoing backchannel communication already underway.

These potential talks, expected to continue over several weeks, are likely to cover a broad agenda including Iran’s nuclear programme, limits on uranium enrichment, possible sanctions relief, maritime security arrangements, and growing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

As per the sources, Iran is reportedly considering limited flexibility on certain aspects of uranium enrichment and nuclear activity under specific conditions, while the US is seeking stricter curbs in return for easing sanctions and offering economic incentives.
