IMF to provided another $3.6bn to Pakistan over next 14 months

Islamabad (Web Desk): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to provide Pakistan with an additional $3.6 billion in financing over the next 14 months under its ongoing support programmes, according to sources in the Ministry of Finance.

Officials said the combined value of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) stands at $8.4 billion, of which $4.8 billion has already been released to Pakistan.

Sources added that the IMF’s next economic review is expected to take place in September, when the lender will assess Pakistan’s macroeconomic performance and evaluate progress on key structural reforms.

Under the IMF programme, Pakistan is required to maintain fiscal discipline, implement tax reforms, improve the performance of the energy sector and advance its privatisation agenda.

The review will also examine efforts to reduce circular debt, curb inflation and implement climate-related reforms.

Officials expressed confidence that successful implementation of the programme’s conditions would help strengthen economic stability, attract greater investment and improve the country’s overall financial system.
