National Minorities Day being observed today

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan is observing National Minorities Day today, a day dedicated to recognizing the invaluable role of religious and ethnic minorities in the country’s development and promoting the founding vision of an inclusive and tolerant society.

The occasion serves as a reminder of the historic speech delivered by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on August 11, 1947, in which he emphasized equality, religious freedom, and full citizenship for all individuals, regardless of faith or background.

To commemorate the day, a variety of events are taking place across the nation, including interfaith dialogues, cultural programs, and seminars organized by government bodies, civil society groups, and community leaders.

These gatherings aim to raise awareness about the fundamental rights of minority communities and reinforce their importance in the socio-economic and cultural fabric of Pakistan.

National Minorities Day aligns with the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which advocates for the protection and support of individuals belonging to religious, ethnic, linguistic, or national minority groups.

The observance reaffirms the country’s moral and constitutional responsibility to uphold these values.

In special messages issued on this occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring equal opportunities and rights for minorities.

The president highlighted the remarkable contributions of minority communities in vital sectors such as the armed forces, judiciary, civil service, education, and healthcare. He stressed that their dedication and service to the nation are a source of pride and must be acknowledged.

PM Shehbaz in his message, emphasized the importance of integrating minority groups into the mainstream of national life, including their representation in public institutions and Parliament.

He reaffirmed that safeguarding the rights of minorities is not only a constitutional requirement but also a moral and religious duty.

The prime minister called upon all Pakistanis to promote unity, mutual respect, and tolerance as a foundation for a stronger, more cohesive nation.
