No deadlock over 27th Amendment, says Information Minister Attaullah Tarar

slamabad (Web Desk): Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has clarified that discussions surrounding the 27th Constitutional Amendment are progressing smoothly and that there is no deadlock in the process.

Talking to reporters at the Parliament House in Islamabad, Tarar emphasized that the Constitution is a living framework that continues to adapt and evolve with time.

The minister said that lawmakers are holding extensive deliberations on the amendment, which is intended to improve governance, reinforce cooperation between the federation and provinces, and strengthen the country’s defence system.

He noted that the proposed 27th Amendment was crafted after studying successful global models to ensure it reflects international best practices.

The minister appreciated the Prime Minister’s move to remove the immunity clause from the draft, describing it as a forward-looking and commendable decision that demonstrates transparency.

Speaking about the provision for presidential immunity, Tarar explained that this principle is universally recognized, as heads of state around the world are granted such protection.

The minister also highlighted that the idea of establishing Constitutional Courts has long been part of Pakistan’s political dialogue, dating back to the Charter of Democracy.

He said that this demand was jointly supported by major political forces, including the Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Awami National Party (ANP), and that the conversation has now reached an advanced and constructive stage.

The information minister added that the creation of the Constitutional Bench under the 26th Amendment has already shown encouraging results by easing the courts’ workload and enhancing their operational efficiency.
